About the Session
This session will focus on guidance for family law professionals (attorneys, GALs, mediators, and mental health professionals) on how to support parents talking to their children about the divorce and the divorce process.
Our panelists will:
Our panelists will:
- Offer an overview on developmental stages of children and how they understand the world around them in these stages.
- Provide guidance on the best way to talk to kids about divorce by age, including how children understand the world around them and why “specifics” about the circumstances can be difficult for children to understand / interpret.
- Overview the best ways to introduce therapy to kids and the benefits of therapy for kids.
- Describe how to help parents Introduce their children to working with a GAL.
Continuing Education Credits
1.8 CLE hours (for attorneys - approved, MO-Bar course ID 699672) and 1.5 CUs (for mental health professionals - approved).
Learning Objectives
In this workshop, attendees will:
- Receive an overview of the developmental stages of children.
- Learn ways to talk with children at different developmental stages about divorce and the divorce process.
- Gain language to support children and parents in entering the therapeutic process.
- Gain language to support children and parents working with a Guardian Ad Litem
